京都・貴船に佇む料理旅館「ひろ文」の改修計画である。

夏の川床料理で知られるこの地は、貴船神社を中心に深い森と清流が広がり、自然と文化が折り重なる風土を宿している。本計画では、貴船の風景、川のせせらぎ、そして山から得られる素材を、滞在の中で静かに感じ取ることのできる空間づくりを目指した。

かつて食事処として使われていた既存建屋を、３つの宿泊室へと全面的に改修。各室を庭に面して配置し、大きな開口部によって自然と一体となる空間構成とした。浴室は庭との連続性を重視し、川音に包まれながら山並みを望む、内と外が溶け合う場として計画している。浴槽には鞍馬石やヒノキ、大杉といった、地域の異なる自然素材を一室ごとに使い分け、それぞれの質感と香りを滞在の記憶に刻む。さらに浴室脇には、貴船川の川石による坪庭を設え、山水を引き込んで直接触れられる構成とした。温泉の湯に浸かり、山水で身体を冷ます——五感で山の力を享受する体験を空間に織り込んでいる。

また、改修の過程で倉庫より発見された先代が保管していた欄間や大杉の板材は、飾り棚として再生し、新たな場に旅館の記憶を継承している。

変わらぬ風景と、静かに流れる時間。貴船の空気に包まれながら、訪れた人がふと「帰ってきた」と感じるような、心に沁みる宿泊体験の場を目指した。

This project is the renovation of the cuisine ryokan Hirobun in Kibune, Kyoto.

Known for its summer river-terrace dining (kawadoko), the area centers on Kifune Shrine and is characterized by deep forests and clear streams—a landscape where nature and culture overlap. Our aim was to shape spaces in which guests can quietly sense Kibune’s scenery, the murmur of the river, and materials drawn from the mountains over the course of their stay.

An existing building formerly used as a dining hall was completely converted into three guest rooms. Each room faces the garden, and large openings create a composition that unites the interior with nature. The baths prioritize continuity with the garden, planned as places where inside and outside blend together—embraced by the sound of the river with views of the mountain ridge. For the tubs, different local natural materials—Kurama stone, hinoki cypress, and Japanese cedar (sugi)—are used in each room so that their textures and fragrances become part of the guest’s memory. Beside the baths, pocket gardens (tsuboniwa) of Kibune River stones draw in mountain water that guests can touch directly. Soaking in hot-spring water and then cooling the body with mountain water—we wove into the space a multisensory experience of the mountain’s vitality.

During the renovation, transoms and cedar boards kept by the previous proprietor and found in storage were restored as display shelves, carrying the inn’s memory into the renewed setting.
With unchanging scenery and time that flows quietly, we sought to create a place of lodging where, enveloped in the air of Kibune, visitors may suddenly feel they have “come home.”
