『スイミー』レオ・レオニ

本計画は、大阪・堺市に開業した「堺スイミー総合クリニック」の内装設計です。既存ビルのスケルトンから空間をつくり上げるC工事であり、外部環境との直接的なつながりを持たない条件下での計画でした。

手がかりとしたのは、クリニック名の由来であるレオ・レオニの絵本『スイミー』です。物語に込められた「個性」「連帯」「やさしさ」といったテーマを空間に重ね合わせることで、地域に開かれ、親しみを感じられる医療空間の姿を探りました。物語のなかで一匹だけ色の異なる小さな魚スイミーが、新しい可能性を切り開いていくように、この計画でも多数の白い診療室の中に、ひとつだけ雰囲気の異なる空間を挿入しています。

内科・外科・美容医療など、診療機能を担う各室は清潔感のある白を基調にデザイン。その中に凹凸を持つベージュ色の空間を差し込むことで、やわらかなリズムと温もりを全体に与えています。このベージュのボリュームは建築の“背骨”のように貫かれ、待合ベンチや本棚、診察室への入口など、場面に応じて多様な役割を担います。

白とベージュ、均質と個性、機能と親しみ。異なる要素が互いを引き立て合いながら、中心と全体がやわらかくつながるクリニック空間がここに立ち上がりました。

This project is the interior design for Sakai Swimmy General Clinic in Sakai, Osaka. It is a Category C interior fit-out, built up from the existing building’s shell and planned under conditions without a direct relationship to the external context.

Our point of departure was Leo Lionni’s picture book Swimmy, from which the clinic takes its name. By translating the themes of “individuality,” “solidarity,” and “kindness” into spatial terms, we explored a healthcare environment that feels open to the community and warmly approachable. Just as Swimmy—the one small fish of a different color—opens up new possibilities, we inserted a single space with a distinct atmosphere among the many white clinical rooms.

Rooms for internal medicine, surgery, and aesthetic medicine are designed with a clean white palette. Into this calm, uniform background we introduce a textured beige volume that lends a gentle rhythm and warmth to the whole. Acting like the architectural “spine,” this beige volume runs through the plan and flexibly becomes a waiting bench, a bookshelf, and thresholds to the consultation rooms, assuming different roles as needed.

White and beige, uniformity and character, function and familiarity—these contrasting elements enrich one another to create a clinic where the core and the whole are softly, coherently connected.
