重奏の家

 兵庫・甲子園に建つ住宅です。端正なRCフレームを骨格とし、そこに木造の屋根や外皮をまとわせることで、素材・時間・暮らしが折り重なる“重奏”の風景をつくりました。RCを堅固な“壁”ではなく都市スケールを受け止める“舞台”と捉え、身体スケールに寄り添う木の架構と響き合わせることで、更新しながら住み継げる家の姿を目指しています。

敷地は、阪神間モダニズムや震災復興の歴史が重なる甲子園の住宅地・角地です。二方向の街路に開く小さな前庭とRCピロティを計画し、街と住まいをゆるやかにつなぎました。外部の緑がRCフレームに抱かれるように入り込み、外から内へのスケールの移行をやわらかく橋渡しします。

構成はスケルトン・インフィルの考え方に基づきます。RC＝耐震骨格、木＝更新可能なインフィルと位置づけ、屋根を木造とすることで荷重を軽減し、必要な鉄筋量を抑えた端正なフレームを実現。RCと木土台はアンカーボルトで確実に緊結しつつ、非耐力の外皮は交換しやすい納まりとしました。RCを土木的ポテンシャルをもつ“柔らかい構造＝舞台”として捉え直し、構造・空間・更新計画を一体で設計しています。

空間体験としては、RCの幾何学的秩序と木の細やかなスケールが階層的につながり、両者の接点から光と風が招き入れられます。柱梁のあいだに生まれる“余白”は大小のたまりとなって居場所をつくり、吹抜けの玄関ホール、木のボックス階段、RCに掛け渡したスチール階段など、素材の変化が日常の動きにリズムを与えます。家族の愛用品や暮らしの痕跡が重なるほど、静けさの中に“静かな雑多性”がにじむことを意図しました。新築でありながら、あらかじめ「ほどく」ことも視野に入れた、リノベーション的な視点を持った設計です。長寿命なRCの骨格と可変性の高い木のインフィルを重ねることで、世代の交代や暮らし方の変化を受け止め、時間とともに深まり続ける住まいを描いています。

A house in Koshien, Hyogo. An orderly reinforced-concrete (RC) frame forms the structural skeleton, and timber roofs and envelopes are draped over it to compose a “polyphonic” landscape where material, time, and everyday life overlap. Rather than treating RC as a rigid “wall,” we read it as a stage that receives the urban scale; in counterpoint, the timber framework attends to the bodily scale. Together they outline a home meant to be updated and handed down over time.

The site is a corner lot in a Koshien neighborhood shaped by layers of history—from Hanshinkan Modernism to post-earthquake reconstruction. A small front garden opens to two streets and an RC piloti mediates between city and dwelling. Planting slips into and is held by the RC frame, gently bridging the shift in scale from outside to inside.

The configuration follows a skeleton–infill approach: RC as the seismic skeleton; timber as adaptable infill. Making the roof in timber reduces weight, which in turn lowers reinforcement demand and allows a restrained, elegant frame. The RC and timber sill plates are tied with anchor bolts, while the non-loadbearing envelope is detailed for ease of replacement. Reframing RC as a “soft” structure—a stage with infrastructural potential—we designed structure, space, and future upgradeability as an integrated whole.

Spatially, the geometric order of RC and the finer grain of timber connect in tiers, admitting light and air where the two meet. The margins between columns and beams become pockets for inhabitation; a double-height entry hall, a timber box stair, and a steel stair spanning the RC frame lend rhythm to daily movement. As beloved objects and traces of life accumulate, a quiet heterogeneity emerges by design. Though newly built, the project adopts a renovation mindset—anticipating selective disassembly when needed. By layering a long-life RC skeleton with highly adaptable timber infill, the house can absorb generational change and evolving lifestyles, growing in depth with time.
